Painted Pony Bean
(58-85 days) One of my favourite beans! Extremely early, it produces prodigious quantities of beautifully striaght, tasty beans for fresh eating and dried beans with a rich, nutty flavour for soups and stews. We first grew this bean in an extremely hot summer with a long drought. The plants were left to their own as we couldn't water and, therefore, didn't weed. When we checked on them at the end of the summer, we were stunned to discover they had thrived and had produced a bumper seed crop for us. I know...we don't deserve them.
The distinctive white on brown beans with a white eye are originally from Mexico and the southern U.S. Named for the American Paint horse with its dramatic white and dark colour pattern.
